However, until now, texts between iPhones and Androids lacked E2EE, leaving a security gap.<\/p>\n<p>The latest <strong><span style=\"color: #1bab6e;\"><a style=\"color: #1bab6e;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/solutions-and-impact\/technologies\/networks\/rcs\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">RCS<\/a><\/span><\/strong> specs fix this, ensuring cross-platform messages stay private. This move addresses long-standing privacy concerns, as unencrypted SMS texts are vulnerable to hacking or surveillance. With E2EE now standardized, billions of users worldwide can enjoy safer, feature-rich messaging\u2014no third-party apps needed.<\/p>\n<p>Apple\u2019s adoption of RCS last year marked a major shift, but the lack of encryption drew criticism. Now, with encryption in place, the tech rivals are closer than ever to delivering seamless, secure communication for everyone.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Selling point<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Imagine texting your friend on Android from your iPhone\u2014with complete encrypted privacy. That future is closer as major tech players unite to encrypt cross-platform texts.<\/p>\n<p>End-to-end encryption (E2EE) scrambles messages so only the sender and receiver can read them\u2014blocking hackers, companies, and even service providers. <strong><span style=\"color: #1bab6e;\"><a style=\"color: #1bab6e;\" href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2011\/06\/06\/apple-imessages\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Apple introduced E2EE for iMessage in 2011<\/a><\/span><\/strong> (iOS-only), while WhatsApp expanded it <strong><span style=\"color: #1bab6e;\"><a style=\"color: #1bab6e;\" href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2016\/04\/05\/whatsapp-completes-end-to-end-encryption-rollout\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">globally by 2016<\/a><\/span><\/strong> (WhatsApp-only). Google later added E2EE to its Messages app, but it worked only for Android-to-Android texts.<\/p>\n<p>Securing chats across different apps and devices. Using the advanced Messaging Layer Security <strong><span style=\"color: #1bab6e;\">(<a style=\"color: #1bab6e;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rfc-editor.org\/rfc\/rfc9420.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MLS<\/a>)<\/span><\/strong> protocol, this upgrade bakes E2EE directly into RCS\u2014the system replacing SMS. Ultimately iPhone and Android users can securely chat via their default messaging apps, no third-party downloads needed.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <strong><span style=\"color: #1bab6e;\"><a style=\"color: #1bab6e;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/newsroom\/article\/rcs-encryption-a-leap-towards-secure-and-interoperable-messaging\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">statement<\/a><\/span><\/strong> from GSMA technical director Tom Van Pelt, RCS will become the initial major messaging service to enable compatible end-to-end encryption (E2EE) among various provider&#8217;s client implementations.
