Apple is planning to add AI to search engines such as OpenAI, Perplexity, and Anthropic to Safari, Bloomberg reported on 7th May, 2025.
Eddy Cue, Apple’s Senior Vice Chief of Services, made a statement during his testimony to the U.S. Justice Department’s lawsuit against Alphabet. Cue’s statement during testimony regarding Apple and Google’s $20 billion annual deal, which makes Google’s search engine as a default search engine on Safari.
He also noted that search results on Safari dropped at the beginning of last month. The decline is attributable to the increasing utilization of AI.
Cue added that he thinks AI search engines will eventually be able to replace traditional search engines, such as Google and Yahoo, which is the reason Apple is currently looking for ways to integrate these search services into its web browser. But, Cue noted that these search engines are not likely to become the default option, as per Cue’s, these options will require improvements.
Apple has already had some discussions with Perplexity, Cue said.
