Apple is reported to be making new chips that power smart glasses that are similar to the Meta’s Ray-Ban Meta as well as stronger Macs and AI servers.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman notes that one of the chips was inspired by Apple Watch’s low-power processors. Apple hopes to get the chips in mass production through TMSC before the year’s end of 2027 according to the report.
Glasses have become a major area of focus. Bloomberg has reported before that Apple’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tim Cook is determined to take on the Meta glasses market and where it has had success over the last few years. From 2023 onwards, Meta has sold around 2 million pairs of Ray-Ban Metas.
As per Bloomberg, Apple is currently investigating non-AR glasses that utilize cameras to analyze the area and depend on AI to help users. The processors in research will be able to regulate these cameras and the other devices without consuming batteries too quickly, according to the report.
