The well-known battle royale game Fortnite has made its comeback in the U.S. App Store after a long legal dispute between its creator, Epic Games, and Apple.
As of Tuesday, players in the EU can also find Fortnite on the Epic Games Store and AltStore. According to a post by Epic on X, it will soon be searchable in the App Store.
Fortnite was taken down by Apple in 2020 when Epic introduced an option for users to buy in-game items using Epic’s own virtual currency, which came with a 20% discount. This move prompted Epic to take legal action against Apple.
A judge sided with Epic, stating that Apple had deliberately violated laws against unfair pricing practices. Recently, this same judge ruled that Apple must permit developers to process payments outside of the App Store without charging extra fees.
After this ruling, Epic resubmitted Fortnite to the App Store but encountered delays in getting approval. The company accused Apple of hindering the game’s return in both the U.S. and EU.
Earlier this week, U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers issued a statement saying that Apple must either approve Epic’s application or provide a valid legal reason for blocking it. This development seemed to favor Epic’s position.
The latest update of Fortnite, now on the App Store, brings an exciting offer: players can earn 20% cash back when they purchase in-game items directly from Epic Games, bypassing Apple’s in-app purchase system. This means gamers can save money while enjoying their favorite game!
